Supelsaksad – Pärnu (Estonia) en

This is my friend in Parnu’s favorite place, and I understand why: the interior design is original, throwing it back to the 30’s when Pärnu was the “station balnéaire spécialiste des cures de santé”, the service is caring, the menu is short and appetizing, there’s no doubt, it’s a place that you wont forget, too bad they played lounge music that day, Supelsaksad is worth more than that.

Not only is the decor out of this world, it really works, even the menu is nicely drawn up. There is also a patio outside. I was there early September, so Pärnu had already emptied out from the summer season, so I don’t know how busy it gets, but my guess is that it does. They opened the coffee shop in 2009.

In the Pärnu “Like a local guide” map, they point out that: “the staff is always smiling”. That day at lunch I ended up with two young ladies that were indeed very helpful, even if the youngest one was a bit shy.

The more seasoned waitress was perfect, she was careful in her recommendations, she came back throughout the meal to see if I liked it. I had a cold that day and she recommended a mix of two herbal teas. When I asked if the seafood and the fish were fresh, she answered: “unfortunately not, but it’s very good”. Honesty is always better.

The menu is nice, short and clear. The fact that the menu itself was well conceptualized makes the reading all that much better.

Beware though, this isn’t cheap for Estonian prices, 14 euros for a main.

I started with a fish soup with tomatoes, mussels, shrimp, and coriander.

The tomato and coriander give it a little hint of Thai influences, it’s very good.

A  little dessert doesn’t hurt, I ask the waitress which is her favorite.

It’s the chocolate one with the cream, orange and Cointreau. It looked so good, I have to put up both pictures. A nice finish.

It’s great coming here both during the day or for a meal, in a cozy and stylish place with an authentic soul. However, the terrible lounge music just has to go:). We want some Jazz, some Estonian folk, whatever as long as it’s something with soul as well.
