There are buses that bring you to Dobele from Liepaja or Jelgava.
I had a coup de coeur for the little town Dobele. For your information, when I organized this trip with the Latvian National Tourism Office, they gave me a list of cities that were ready to receive me, and on my side I compiled a list of cities and towns that were recommended to me by Latvian friends. Afterwards, the Tourism Office merged the lists and that’s how I ended up with my itinerary, so there were times where when I arrived in a city I didn’t remember if it was a recommendation or a city they had given me. The day before going to Dobele, I was telling all my local contacts that I was going there the next day, and all of them were surprised: ” but what are you going to Dobele for?”, I wasn’t really sure myself :). When I arrived, my coup de coeur was immediate, the weather was nice, I liked the atmosphere. I put up my pictures on facebook, and one of my friends messaged me: ” how did you like the town I was born in?” It’s then that I realized that the only reason I went there in the first place was on her recommendation.

The centertown was renovated, it’s very pretty, it’s a pleasure to walk around. Dobele is nicknamed “the capital of the sun” because it benefits from a micro-climate, I was coming from several days of rain, and when I got to Dobele it was sunny.
Dobele is the perfect pit stop between Liepaja and Riga (or Jurmal, or Turkums)

The dream, 12 euros a night, on the outskirts of the town. They make their own wine. Warm welcome, awesome. 15 euros hourly for the sauna.
The ruins of Dobele’s Castle

I really liked the ruins of this 13th century castle, it was built by the Germans who brought the “Swords Brothers Order” Catholicism

Pokaini
The sacred stones in the forest.
Pokaini is considered to be a place where the energy field is very powerful. Many are able to feel odd energy radiations, some have had experiences of paranormal visions. Scientists are still trying to figure out these phenomenons.
The place was only found in the 90’s, and thousands of volunteers got together to clean up the forests.

There’s a huge second hand clothes store (it’s a chain store in Latvia), the one in Dobele is impressive when you compare its size to the town’s.
