Valvas’or – Ljubljana (Slovénie) en
19.05.14 - Guillaume - 716lavie
This is a classy restaurant actually, not the kind I would have been attracted to usually, had it not been for the restaurants’ week, but you never know…things are different in Ljubljana.
The food was good, even if some of the dishes weren’t perfect all the way.
I still recommend you go take a look for yourself if you want a meal in a classy spot, without the snobby service.
It’s right in the middle of the historic center on the pretty and busy Stari trg.
From the outside you can’t miss it with its black and gold front, and also because of the tables that are outside.
The inside is in the same style, classy and modern. Bathrooms are luxurious and comfortable.
The service is serious, there was an older server that seemed to be the leader of the team: he looked super serious. No top models here, you’ll only find pros that work hard. I saw some comments that mentioned unpleasant service, I didn’t see anything of the sort.
A man that looks like the manager looks a bit out of place, his outfit is a bit too relaxed compared to the rest of team’s.
In short, our service was perfect.
Careful, the tasting menu is 40 euros, expensive for this city, otherwise the dishes of the day are between 11 and 20 euros.
We get started with our 13 euros menu made for the festival of restaurants
Appetizer
Fresh marinated tuna and mandarin mousse
Interesting this fresh tuna cut in tiny little cubes, the mandarin mousse is also very surprising, it goes down well. That being said the overall composition of the plate isn’t all that crazy.
With it we take a glass of white wine, Malvazija
Palate cleanser
Lemon sorbet and Apérol gelée
Main
Bass filet, parsley purée and creamed butter
The bass is perfectly cooked, I’m repeating myself, but it wasn’t underdone like the trend in Paris, but well done like in New Zealand:).
The carrots however were there purely for decoration purposes, they were tasteless. It’s too bad.
Dessert
Chocolate soufflé and mint mousse.
Excellent dessert.
It was cute of them to put coffee beans on the plate.
Like throughout the entire festival, the bill was ridiculous: 2 menus at 13 euros+ 2 coffees+ 2 glasses of wine: 38 euros.
Is it worth it outside the festival? I’m not sure I would go there running, that being said, if you want a classier setting, the service that matches, all of this in a great central location, I’d take a look at the menu to see if I wanted to try it out.
