This a bar I went to with the press group, so it isn’t a place that I found on my own, as it was Valencia’s tourism office that brought us there. The one responsible for the tourism office was my age and we became friends, he confirmed that he liked to go there. I met other locals later that also said they liked this place.
An old style café with baroque style decorations, lots going on. It’s located just beside the Plaza de la Mar de Deu (also called de la Virgen).
We were welcomed by the owners of the place whom since the opening of the café in ’94 want to make it a ” literary café french style, a salon de thé english style, and cocktail bar american style”: there you have it!
We went there to taste the Agua de Valencia which is a cocktail made with sparkling wine, orange juice, vodka and gin. It was created in 1959 by Constante Gil at Café Madrid in Valencia, I don’t need to tell you that it’s very easy to drink, and just as easy to get hit pretty hard with it! Easy with the Agua! 🙂
I chose to recommend this place to you, even if I didn’t go back another time to check it out more closely, simply because I thought the owners were cool, the design as well, the place was recommended by several trusted people, and the Agua de Valencia was the best I had during my stay in Valencia. ( I tried it again, twice, three times, just to see if it was still good….)
