Valmeria (Latvia)
27.02.15 - Guillaume - 716lavie
I enjoyed Valmeria a lot, probably because I got along with the tourism office person, she really understood my needs for 716, and she drove me to many places; Valmeria is best enjoyed with a car for sure.
Valemeria is a university city that is pretty unknown when compared to Cesis, who has the advantage of being a historical town. The two are in a bit of competition lets say:). But Valmeria has a lot of charm, and the fact that it has a lot of students, as well as little tourists gives it an authentic vibe.

The entrance ticket to the tea garden costs 1.40 euros. Go to the tea museum, you can drink some, very good atmosphere. Each last Thursday of the month they do “traveller story evenings”.

Sietiniezis Cliff
You have to go see these amazing boulders 17 km away from Valmeria. There’s a bus that drops you off beside it. You have to take the “Valmeria-Vaidava-Rubene-Valmiera” bus from the main bus station in Valmeria, and get off at the “Sietiņiezis” stop, you then have to walk 1.2 km to the parking lot. Lots of information here.

The beer brewery that you have to check out, especially since the restaurant is excellent.
The places that were recommended to me by locals that I didn’t get a chance to go to:

An inexpensive buffet-style cafeteria which is very popular at lunch, validated by locals.
Pizzeria Liepziedi un Rozmarīns
Bruņinieku iela 4

One of its advantages is that it’s beside the city’s museum and the tea garden. We went there for a lunch, but I wasn’t really enthusiastic about what I saw, however, a local confirmed that the pizzas were good, and that the place was cool when it was nice out, because it overlooks the river.

An awesome place outside of the city where you can see concerts, or for a private venue. It’s run by a family that puts all of its heart into it, the two sisters underneath on the right.
