A biergarten like we’d dream of having in Paris. There’s a good atmosphere, the park is elevated, it’s ideal for a nice weekend afternoon.
A local showing me around the Vyšehrad area which is located south-east of the historic center. There’s the castle there and within its walls the famous cemetery where are buried some of the most famous individuals in Czech history, such as Antonin Dvorak ( a kind of Père Lachaise in Prague if you will).
But you can totally skip the cemetery, which we did, and enjoyed the park with its view of the city.
After that person left, I was hesitating between following her or stay a bit more. As we were splitting up I noticed the park and I decided to stay and have a beer.
I find that cool Biergarten atmosphere right under the sun, and I look for some shade, it was so hot. One of the rare shaded spots were a table with a couple chairs around it. I ask the young guy sitting there if he minds if I sit down, he tells me no problem. Then we start chatting. It just so happened that he was a DJ who organized parties: it couldn’t come at a better time, my electronic music and underground nightlife categories needed some work.
Micheal is both DJ and the boss of the Beef label, as well as producer/member of the group Shades of Gray, whose new album just came out.
He tells me that the owner of this Biergarten organizes techno parties in the woods, that the bar isn’t old, and is totally working out.
Indeed, it seems like you can meet lots of people from the Prague underground scene here.
So it ended up that I went to meet his friends that are all in the electronic scene. One of the really cool individuals I met owns a convenience store, which transforms itself in the group’s headquarters. On one end you have the neighbors that come get what they’re missing, and on the other you have artists that are taking a drink and listening to some good electronic music in the store.
Other picture of the Vyšehrad park.
Un lieu propice aux rencontres, pas seulement pour les humains.
Good underground plan!
