716 Exclusive Mix – Runner : Subb716 Mix

Runner is from Athens in Greece and has been ‘at it’ for many years. It all started in the early 90’s with electronic music in Athens. From 93 till the millennium, he lived, studied, worked and partied in the UK while getting heavily involved with jungle & drum and bass among other things as a dedicated foot soldier.

In 2000 he got back home and became part of the local scene with his partner in crime back then (Boycott) as d2 aka Dark Drummerz – d2 was also their DJ alias for jungle. In mid 2000’s he helped ignite the dubstep scene in Athens with setting up the Ital Soundz nights @ legendary Jazz Upstairs/Guru Bar with what is now the Berceuse Heroique frontman KEMAΛ and d2. At the end of the last decade Subbed Out popped up as a firm idea that comes from seeing Loefah flip an entire scene on its ass based on low end subbed out shit across the spectrum, kicking doors down, left right & centre with Swamp81. The nights spawned the radio show « SubbedOut » which is a monthly affair on Paranoise Radio since 2010, a killer web radio platform with GR producers that are scattered around Europe. Since then he has been religiously promoting Dimensions Festival in Athens after a life changing visit in Croatia in 2012 while also setting up special one offs in the capital.

So what about this Subb716 mix? This was recorded in Dec 30th digging deep with 80% of the music coming from 2016 while the rest coming from the past to spice things up. In his own words: « Basically subbed out shit from 120-126bpm, it’s been a great year musically. »

The artwork comes from a photo from a very rare set of London pics from the late 70s/early 80s by a famous photographer whose name escapes him at the moment.
