Québec Modern – Disco/funk sulfureux et modern soul du Québec

Felix est un authentique mordu, un passionné jusqu’à l’os de la musique québecoise dans son ensemble, un digger patenté qui aime partager ses découvertes et raconter les histoires qu’il y a derrière ces disques rares et ces musiciens, parfois restés dans l’ombre. Je l’ai rencontré à Radio-Canada où il officiait, et travaille toujours. Je l’ai ensuite invité sur 716 à réaliser une 716 Playlist. Il avait alors proposé une sélection de Québec Soul. Félix anime son blog ventedegarage et a également publié un livre sur le métal québecois : L’Évolution du métal québécois. Je vous signale en passant la 716 Playlist de métal québecois par Dj Acier Trempé, aka Hugues Sweeney, ex directeur de la fantastique bandeapart.fm, radio défricheuse du service public québecois, aujourd’hui disparue, là même où j’ai rencontré Félix et Hugues.

Aujourd’hui il nous présente une sélection de découvertes récentes tirées du répertoire musical produit au Québec du milieu des années 70 au milieu des années 80. Il tient à remercier Nicolas Lê Quang, Simon Leclerc (Psyquébélique – /, Le Jazzthèque Québécoise), Louis-Guy Bégin (Rythmes étranges ) et Jean-Baptiste Duvignaud (Explosive Groove).

Felix is a true fan of Quebec music in general, a deep digger who loves to share his discoveries and tell the stories behind these rare records and sometimes obscure musicians. I met him at Radio-Canada where he still works as a journalist. Later on, I invited him for a 716 Playlist. He made a fantastic selection of Québec Soul. Félix still runs his blog ventedegarage and has also published a book about métal from Québec : L’Évolution du métal québécois.

Today he is introducing to us a selection of his recent discoveries of Quebec music from the mid 70’s until the mid 80’s. Russ Gabriel est un ancien dont le son évolue entre deepness mélodique et sons plus raw, toujours là après bientôt 20 ans de carrière.

I remember hearing this for the first time and realising that techno was entering a new era.

Just listen to see why we should all use more 808. The most energetic album i own too.

7) Marvin Gaye – I Want You
Nothing needs to be said.

8) Berger / Hodge / Moufang / Ruit – Conjoint 
Moufang’ best work in my opinion. I think i must have sold 50 of these on recommendation.

9) Miles Davis – In A Silent Way
I can just imagine his meeting with the record company…”Herbie on keys…oh, i think i need chic as well….er…did i mention i think you should pay for Joe Zawinul in case we need a bit more?”

A genius journey from start to finish

J’ai eu la chance d’accueillir l’artiste Tadd Mullinix aka JTC sur 716 déjà deux fois :
– un superbe 716 Mix
– une 716 Sélection de Restaurants de sa ville Ann Arbour
Il est ce type d’artistes que vous êtes toujours heureux de recevoir.
Il a été très actif ces derniers temps que ce soit sous le pseudo de JTC, enregistrant pour des labels tels que Ansatz, Hoya Hoya, Spectral ou Killekill, ou en tant que Charles Manier, réalisant un album brillant pour Kode, un label affilié à Nation.
Sur 716 on préfère laisser la musique parler plutôt que des bavardages sans fin, alors en guise de conclusion : la musique de Tadd n’est pas seulement funky et envoûtante, en l’écoutant on devine qu’elle a été faite par quelqu’un d’intelligent.
