716 Exclusive Mix – TBC : Cosmic Mind & Cosmic Planet

It is an honour and a pleasure to welcome the legendary Italian dj TBC on 716 for 2 amazings mixes he gave us : Cosmic Mind & Cosmic Planet. The biography that will follow is based on notes he gave me. I know there have been a lot of discussions about the Cosmic and Space Disco scenes. In any case, I don’t want to take part in this debate about who “invented” what, I’m here to publish good quality music and that is all what matters.

“TBC, for Claudio Tosi Brandi, has experienced the glorious times of the disco scene in Italy at the end of 70’s/80’s. He had, his breakthrough while working at the Papillon Club in Riccione, where he introduced the new sound called Space Disco; a combination between Disco music and the largely popular sound of the time, the Funky. In February 1980 he started working at the Cosmic, a discothèque in Lazise on the Garda Lake. There, he collaborated for four years with Daniele Baldelli and invented the “Dj Show”, a musical phenomenon that did then expand worldwide. In fact, accompanying his own Dj Sets with the live sound of keyboards and drums, he brought to life a completely new concept in the DJ’s way of working.” TBC will play in many clubs, the most famous ones being Cosmic, Typhoon, Chicago, Melody Mecca & Boomerang. He’ll also play in many Sports Hall in Milano, Brescia, Mantova, Padova ,Bologna, Parma, Reggio Emilia, Perugia ,Torino, Verona, Bolzano, Trento, Ravenna, Rimini, Pesaro, Roma, Napoli, Firenze.

Here are two mixes from his “Cosmic” years, that he gave to us. He is still playing nowadays and will play in Berlin the 24th june 2016 at the party of our friend Tom Bolas.

D’abord je tiens à dire que je suis très heureux que TBC m’ait confié ces 2 mixes. Dans la partie biographique qui suit, j’ai essentiellement traduit la bio qu’il m’a donnée. Je sais qu’il y a des grands débats sur les tenants et les aboutissants des scènes space disco et cosmic, je ne préfère pas rentrer dedans et laisser la musique parler d’elle-même.

TBC, pour Claudio Tosi Brandi, a connu les grandes heures de gloire de la scène disco italienne de la fin des années 70/80. Son premier “coup d’éclat” fut lorsqu’il inventa le son Space Disco au club Papillon à Riccione : ce son combinait la musique disco au son Funky de l’époque. Ensuite, à partir de 1980, il joua à la discothèque Cosmic sur le lac de Garde, où il collabora pendant 4 ans avec le dj Daniele Baldelli et inventa le “Dj Show” : il accompagnait ses dj sets en jouant live du clavier et de la batterie. Il continuera sa carrière de dj, en jouant dans de nombreux clubs, les plus fameux étant Cosmic, Typhoon, Chicago, Melody Mecca & Boomerang. Il se produira aussi dans  Sports Hall in Milano, Brescia, Mantova, Padoue, Bologna, Parme, Reggio Emilia, Perugia, Turin, Vérone, Bolzano, Trento, Ravenna, Rimini, Pesaro, Rome, Naples, Florence.

Voici deux mixes de l’époque “Cosmic” qu’il nous a confiés. Il joue toujours aujourd’hui et se produira d’ailleurs le 24 juin 2016 à la soirée de notre ami Tom Bolas à Berlin.
