716 Exclusive Mix – Kelton Prima : Automne Mix

Kelton Prima has been first mentionned a long time ago on 716 : a 716 playlist in january 2010 then later own a mixtape for 716. But my relation to Kelton Prima is much longer than this, we are friends since 1993 and we have both spent countless hours mixing together at my house. He was already composing music in the early 90’s with an Amiga. 25 years later he is an accomplished producer and a talented dj. His new Ep “« Texas Puissance 77” on Mathematics recordings, following the “Reactivated” Ep in 2015, has just been released.

All the titles of the tracks from this “Texas Puissance 77” EP are joking about a possible link between the Texas and the outter Paris department where Kelton is located, the 77. You’ll find his unique disco/electro-funk touch all along the record : the keyboards, the male voices, the vibe, everything is there. Imagine if Prelude would release new tracks in 2016, that might sound like this. I’d rather call it Nu Funky that Nu Disco.

For this 716 Mix, Kelton Prima put a lot of his musical influences : the old school classic rap “Street Justice” by the Rake, the killer 82’s electro “ET Boogie”, the singer Brenda Taylor or the French house crew Oscar, the long edit by Andreas of the “Nightgruv” by James Mason, Tevo Howard and his father Rick,  Engian and his disco boogie, the Brazilian Seixlack, and so on…

716 Exclusive Mix – DJ Technician – Moon Patrolling

Mathieu De Ridder is an electro producer from The Hague in Holland. He is a purveyor of genuine electro music, that goes from the raw electro bass – including scratches, old school synths and robot male voices – to more funky italo tracks. When it come to electro, Dj Technician and Dj Overdose belong to the same musical school and it is not a coincidence they have just released an EP together on Charlois, the sub label of Pinkman, ran by our friend Patrick Marsman.

In 2006, Dj Technician had already hit strong with his record on Bunker “My Beat is a Monster”, a hell of a program.

He is also the Matzo of Matzo & Pauli for some slow mo trippy electro synth music, last release on Cyberdance records from Ali Renault, Casionova and Spruxxx.

His 716 podcast is an electro mix with no compromise! Special big up to have played the Soul Oddity Remix of the Odd Job track by the Miami band Phoenecia, one of my favs tracks ever.

716 Exclusive Mix – Nocow : Inner Ubiquity

Aleksei Nikitin from St Petersbourg released his first tracks in 2008. Since then, he has become a reference for dub techno, techno and ambient, producing 5 albums and about 10 singles or eps. His last album “Ravine”  was for the German label Fauxpax Musik.

I have been following him for a while, I posted for the first time a track of himon 716 in june 2011 : “You Got Me”, an abstract dubstep track that reminds some Burial releases and that was already released for Fauxpax Music and featured on his Ruins Tape Lp.

Don’t miss this crazy video made for his track “Sirenas” co-produced with Lapti

More recently, he released the excellent EP “Zathdax” for the Russian label Roots United records and “Letit” for Royal Oak, the sublabel of Clone.

The bouncy Zathdax has some influences of the first Sis releases on Cecille records.

Third Waterbird is more properly some slow dub techno with the Nocow’s touch.

The EP on Royal Oak is some deep techno with the typical trance touch that has always been supported by the label from Netherlands.

Oh he did a live for Boiler Room too you can check here.

Time for the mix, imagine you’re snowboarding on an imaginary snowboard that can also fly and you’re wearing some special ski clothes that keep you warm. You’re just surfing through the forest, enjoying the dub/trancey/techno ride.

716 Exclusive Mix – Buzz Compass : Cut From The Same

Buzz Compass is a prolific Russian producer, famous for his deep house cuts and his re-edits, who has been attracted at an early age by the groove, whatever it is jazz, disco, soul or techno. No matter then that his music is soulful, sometimes vocal. It sometimes sounds like a cut straight outta Chicago or Brooklyn, but no, it was probably made right in Nizhny Novgorod, 6 hours east of Moscow or Ivanovo, b4 hours north-east from Moscow.

His productions can be slightly rougher and sound like awesome trippy disco on Midnight Riot recordings,

or some afterhours deep house on Diggin’ Disco Deep:

Last but not least, I discovered Buzz Compass through his friend Dubfusion who had done a 716 Mix in september. He is also a talented dj who plays exclusively on vinyl during his live sets. For this 716 mix, he decided to play some broken beat music, including some of his unreleased works/edits, some new and old stuff. The cover photo of the mix has been made by his friend Sergey Nazarov while he was in Paris.
