Tērvete, Zaļenieku pagasts
From Jelgava, take the bus to Tervete and get off at the Putelkrogs stop.
It’s a well-known inn/restaurant 26 km away from Jelgava, in the direction of Tervete Park, a solid spot.
The building dates back to 1933, and has been used as a restaurant since 2009. It’s by the side of a road that if very popular for cyclists in the summer, but you have to be careful, cars drive fast/ it’s a problem in Latvia actually, drivers don’t want to share the roads with cyclists and bike lanes haven’t been put in place yet.
It’s also an inn, and the place is at a nice price on booking, between 40 and 45 euros for the double.
As for the restaurant, the rooms is a bit kitsch, but in the end, it’s pretty authentic nonetheless.
It’s the boss that welcomed us, but I was with someone from the tourism office, so I can’t say I experienced the busy summer lunch welcome, when it’s full. Either way, I liked the boss, she was sincere in her actions, and worried about giving me quality service.
On commence Started off with a good local beer, the one from Tervete is popular.
Appetizer
Chanterelle soup with bacon and croutons, 3.20 euros
It was fall, so it was the season for mushrooms, and Lord knows those in Latvia are abundant and famous (plenty are sold in Italy).
Mains
Potato beignets, salmon, crème fraîche, 4.90 euros
A delight!!!!
Dessert
Chocolate cake
