Druga Violina – Ljubljana (Slovenia) en

Druga Violina ( the second violin) is a restaurant run by the Draga Center, an organization that takes care of people struggling with mental illness. Therefore, the staff is comprised of patients and people that are helping them. This is an opportunity to traditional Slovenian food at low prices and to help out the organization. The restaurant is very popular.

The restaurant gives off to the famous Stari trg, in the historic center. There are two rooms, the first one is in front of the street, and the other, is at the back. There is lot of room to eat comfortably. I preferred the first room much more, as it gives you a nice view of the street.
I’d like to mention that bathrooms in Ljubljana are clean, there is a much different bathroom culture there, than in France. Here, all the bathrooms I’ve been to were well equipped and immaculate.

That Sunday night, there weren’t any patients. The staff was young, sweet, a delight.

They use local products, even if all of it isn’t amazing, it’s once again an opportunity to eat healthy food, for a low cost ( but not at discount!), in a nice atmosphere, a useful place to know.

Fresh curd cheese, lettuce, arugula, endive, corn, cucumber, carrots, house yogurt sauce
I asked the waitress if the sauce was made in house because I had the feeling that it wasn’t, but she confirmed that it was. Same for the lettuce, it’s not coming out of a bag.

Cheese ravioli
These ravioli, also made in house, are stuffed with cheese, and I had chosen the mushroom sauce, fresh! ( I forget which other sauce was available).
Substantial, but good!

I also took a pear digestif which was perfect.

A pint of beer, a vitamins salad, two ravioli, one pear digestif, one coffee: 15 euros, all of this with amazing seats and attentive service.
If the food itself wasn’t out of this world, it was still quite good, and overall the experience was perfectly charming.
