Except that it’s pretty good, not too expensive and served in a friendly atmosphere.
This part of the rue Eugène Carrière is quiet. On sunny days it is like heaven on the terrace. I have not tried to eat inside.
It was a young man who served and at the end he told me that it was he and his partner who hold the place.
He was sometimes a bit lost at the service, but he told me that it was because it was the first sunny day for ages and he found himself alone to manage a sudden influx on the terrace. Nice, he offered me coffee because the chef had initially forgotten to serve me the french fries that come along with my “tartine”.
Good spirit.
At lunchtime there is a 12.90 euros menu : starter – main dish, but when I arrived there was no more specials.
The person who had recommended me the place had specifically mentioned the croque-monsieur. As I think it is quite rare to find a good croque monsieur, that had excited my curiosity.
When I came , the “croque” had disappeared from the menu and been replaced by a “tartine” ; the tartine is a concept that I find most of the time “bullshit” : sometimes it’s an easy way for some breweries to rob you 9 euros you with a slice of warmed poilâne .
What I liked here is that it might look like the fake “tartine” I have just described except that:
– The bread was fresh and well cooked rather
– The goat cheese was rather fine
– Tomatoes had nothing to be ashamed of
– The salad side had character ( diverse, with volume, punchy ) although the sauce was a bit too sweet / gadget
– Finally it came with french fries that they had forgotten to serve me at the beginning, they were good ones.
In the end it’s a really good dish that feeds you for 9 euros.
Good to know this place. There are probably days when it will be a little worse than others because of the affluence or because of the food that may be less successful than others in this “neo-bistro” register.
But one thing is certain: the young man who did the service, and who is one of the two partners, has the necessary generosity needed for that job, he wants to give people something good at a good price and does not take them for fools.
All those criterias match those of 716.
