Dj Patrice Heyoka qui fut l’un des djs emblématiques de Trance poursuit sa construction d’un aéroport cosmique en nous proposant une 2ème playlist. Après le 1er tome consacré aux morceaux rave des années 90/91, voici le 2ème dédié à la trance allemande de 1992, notamment celle jouée en after party.
Profitez des commentaires éclairés d’un pionnier qui a suivi toute cette effervescence et qui nous la retranscrit avec un bonheur communicatif 20 ans plus tard. Merci Patrice.

Construction of a cosmic airport : the German trance from 1992.
Dj Patrice Heyoka who has been one of the emblematic Trance dj’s continued the construction of his Cosmic Airport with this 2nd volume. After the playlist vol. 1 dedicated to the rave tracks from 90/91, this one focuses on the German trance from 92′, especially those records which were played in after parties.
Enjoy the comments of a pioneer who has been involved into this effervescent scene and who tells us the story with an intact enthusiasm which is totally communicative.

“Hambourg, Frankfurt, Berlin… Cette playlist rassemble la crème des composteurs de la scène Trance teutonne en 1992 (sauf pour le titre n°2, qui est de 91). A l’époque, c’est ce que l’on pouvait faire de plus abouti, planant et cosmique à partir des machines analogiques et digitales d’un studio. Cette musique est une parenthèse unique (ne pas oublier que l’on sortait à peine de l’EBM et du New Beat) car ces compositeurs s’orienteront plus tard vers d’autres styles : Trance Club, Transcore, Techno etc.
Pour le style Goa, ça commencera l’année suivante, en Angleterre cette fois. Mais ceci est une autre histoire…”

Hambourg, Frankfurt, Berlin… This playlist contains the best producers of the German scene of 1992 (except for the track n°2 from 91′). At the time, that was the most achieved trippy and cosmic trance music produced with analogic  and digital studio material. This music was made during a very short period that didn’t last, the producers will make later some Trance Club, Transecore, Techno etc…
For the Goa trance, it will start the next year, in England. But this is another story…”

1) Effective Force – Diamond Bullet (Act 5, Virtual Reality) – 124 bpm
Johnny Klimek & Paul Browse sur le fameux berlinois label MFS. Les différentes versions de Diamond Bullet sont disséminées à travers un maxi, un album et quelques compiles. Ici un planant remix de Cosmic Baby sur la compilation “Tranceformed From Beyond”.

2) LDC – Wir Schicken Dich Ins All – 125 bpm
Oh, cette somptueuse intro… La face B du premier single (sur Dance Pool, 1991) d’un trio allemand : Peter Zweier, Alexander Abraham et surtout le génial et regretté Torsten Fenslau, disparu prématurément fin 93. Une des nombreuses déclinaisons de leur titre-concept “Die Schwarze Zone” et incontestablement mon track favori de cette époque.

Oh this gorgeous intro… The B side of the 1st 12″ (on Dance Pool, 1991) of a German trio : Peter Zweier, Alexander Abraham and most of all the genious Torsten Fenslau, too soon gone in 93. On of the numerous versions of their concept-track “Die Schwarze Zone” and without any doubts my favourite track of the time.

3) The Odd Company – We Are Experienced! – 128 bpm
Un seul maxi pour ce projet, sur Logic Records, qui ressemble beaucoup à ce que faisait Dance 2 Trance. Et c’est logique, car il s’agit de Rolf Ellmer (Jam El Mar) & Dag Lerner (Dj Dag). Capables d’aligner des tubes de Trance limite commerciale, mais aussi de créer quelques perles intemporelles.

Only one 12″ for this project on Logic records that sounds similar to what Dance 2 Trance was doing. And it’s logical cause the 2 producers are Rolf Ellmer (Jam El Mar) & Dag Lerner (Dj Dag). They were able to produce a bunch of Trance hits, almost commercial, but also to create some timeless tracks.

4) Dance 2 Trance – Freaks – 131 bpm
Revoilà Jam El Mar & Dj Dag pour leur célèbre projet Trance, accessoirement les auteurs du magique “We Came In Peace”. Extrait de leur premier album Moon Spirits paru chez Blow Up. Envoutant.

Here come Jam El Mar & Dj Dag again for their famous trance project. They’re also the authors of “We Came In Peace”. This track features on their 1st album Moon Spirits released on Blow Up. Irresistible.

5) Barbarella – The Mission – 132 bpm
Les débuts de Harthouse/Eye Q à Frankfurt. Sven Vath et surtout Ralf Hildenbeutel aux manettes pour leur concept spatial Barbarella aux variations multiples. Ici, une version de 9 minutes, la plus Trance à mon sens. Très proche de ce que faisait Pete Namlook dans son studio de Fax Records au même moment et toujours à Frankfurt.

The first steps of the Harthouse/Eye Q label in Frankfurt. Sven Vath and most of all Ralf Hildenbeutel are behind this spatial concept Barbarella. I have put a 9 min. version, the most trancey one according to me. It’s very close from what Pete Namlook was doing at the same time in his Fax Records studio also in Frankfurt.

6) Voov – It’s Anything You Want It To Be, And It’s A Gas (Part 1 & 2) – 133 bpm
Voov, c’est Violation Of Ordinary Values. C’est Christian Graupner pour un des premiers maxis de MFS. “It’s A Gas” est un morceau culte qui existe en plusieurs versions. Ici, ce sont Smoke Machine et Strobe Light (à 4’40). A noter que Voov, c’est aussi le nom du premier festival Trance à la même époque et à Hambourg.

Voov means Violation Of Ordinary Values. It’s Christian Graupner who produced one of the first 12″ released on MFS. “It’s A Gas” is a cult track that had many versions. For this one, the vibe is Smoke Machine and Strobe Light (at 4’40). Voov was also the name of the first Trance festival, it took place at Hamburg at the same time.

7) The Nights of Pan – The White Angel – 135 bpm
Kai Fritsche pour ce projet peu connu de la scène de Hambourg. Extrait de l’album “Into The Great White Light” sorti sur MFS. D’autres versions des titres de ce LP figurent sur l’album “Oz”, sorti la même année, mais… uniquement sur cassette. Ah, l’underground !

Kai Fritsche for a quite misknow project. This was on the album “Into The Great White Light” released on MFS. There are other versions of the tracks of the album whoch feature on the album “Oz”, released the same year, but… only on tapes. Ah the underground !

8) Re-Pitcher – Thing (Evolution Mix) – 130 bpm
Un remix bien sombre et mélancolique de Evolution (Andreas Roll, fondateur du label Gaia Tonträger à Hambourg & Dirk Obudzinski). Tellement différent de l’original que le titre leur est crédité sur la première compile Gaia. Et un sample de la B.O. du film de John Carpenter, évidemment.

A dark and melancholic remix by Evolution (Andreas Roll, fondateur du label Gaia Tonträger à Hambourg & Dirk Obudzinski), so different from the original version that they’re credited as the producers of the track on the 1st Gaia compilation. There is a sample of the OST of the John Carpenter’s movie, of course.

9) Bi-Face – Flota (one) – 128 bpm
Parmi les rares sorties, entre 91 et 93, de Aural Audio, sous-label de Injection Records, il y a ce maxi, fruit de la collaboration entre Pascal Dardoufas (aka Pascal FEOS) & Uwe Schmidt (Atom Heart). Magnifique.

Among the rarities that came out between 91 & 93 on Aural Audio, a sub label of Injection Records, there is this 12″ produced by Pascal Dardoufas (aka Pascal FEOS) & Uwe Schmidt (Atom Heart). Beautiful. 

10) Resistance D – Cosmic Love – 125 bpm
Une fois n’est pas coutume, plusieurs versions de ce chef d’oeuvre sont disséminées sur les quatre premiers maxis du célèbre projet de Pascal FEOS & Maik Maurice. Si à l’époque certains ou certaines d’entre vous étiez encore sur le dance-floor à 11h du mat’, vous apprécierez, je l’espère, le break à 4’20 et l’irrésistible groove qui fait suite. Enjoy !

There is a couple of versions of this masterpiece on the four 1st 12” of the famous project of Pascal FEOS & Maik Maurice. If you were still on the dancefloor at 11AM, I hope you’ll appreciate the break at 4’20 and the irresistible groove that follows. Enjoy!
