Caru Cu Bere – Bucharest (Romania) en

It’s the establishment that everyone in Bucharest would recommend if asked ( trendy, foodie, tradition, whichever) It’s always full, the design old fashioned. Service is warm, and overall I thought that the food was good, not too heavy, which is nice since it was traditional.
The pictures speak for themselves don’t they? Careful, in Romania there are no laws against smoking, so in many of the restaurants people smoke. Here they ask you if you want to eat in the smoking or non-smoking area but there is nothing separating the two, it’s just a concept.
This is something that surprised me here, I told the waitress that I was here to write articles on restaurants, and that I wanted to try dishes that she liked. It might have amused her, but it didn’t really stimulate her in the least. Let’s be clear, it’s not to say that people should be beside themselves in happiness upon learning that a blogger is at their restaurant, but generally speaking throughout my travels people are usually excited at the idea that a foreigner is coming to their place to discover their food. In all the other restaurants in Romania, I was warmly welcomed.
To be brief, it’s nice here but a little impersonal. That being said she recommended some interesting dishes to me.
Main
Mici or Mititei
These are meat sausages made with pork, beef and lamb, and a lot of spices.
Why didn’t I take a picture? Probably because I was starving!
A good Romanian beer, Ursus, to wash it all down.
Supa de pui cu taitei de ca
The person with me chose the chicken soup with homemade noodles.
Main
Sarmale with mamaliga (polenta) and crème fraîche
Cabbage leaves stuffed with meat, served with polenta and crème fraîche.
You can also choose vine leaves instead of the cabbage ones.
Let it be known that you find polenta everywhere in Romania. It’s the number one side dish.
It’s very good, and light.
Definitely a place to try, because both Romanians and tourists alike go there, once again every one I contacted recommended it.
I had a good time, at a small price, perfect for an initiation to Romanian culture.
