- Le résumé -

Here’s the best news on the left bank since…the crazy years at Montparnasse have been over; and I owe it to a 716 reader that I once again would like to thank. As a client was saying: finally a bar that makes my friends and I move from the right bank.                                                                                                             To  summarize: cheap drinks and burgers, cozy, good music exclusively from vinyl. Ok so not everything’s perfect, but we’re not going to be picky here: it’s really good!

- Lieu -

Situated in a little street behind the Montparnasse cemetery, big advantage: no cars can drive by, so we only find foodies and regulars in this bar.                                                                                                                                 There are two rooms, careful seats are high in demand. The day we went in January we were told it was one of the up and coming spots since its opening in October. So the team is still getting organized.             The interior design is super cool, reminds me a lot of the ones I see during my travels in Italy or New Zealand, but rarely in Paris: cozy and of good taste, tables where we can eat, and other spots where you can have a drink.

- L'équipe -

The person that recommended this to me explained that they weren’t specifically all from the industry except for the cook, and that it could show. I still don’t know what to think on that point. Put that to the side, and my welcome was warm-hearted. Since I was seated in the back at a dirty table I went up to the bar to ask if it could get cleaned up, and they answered no problem, they were going to come right away, which they did.                                                                                                                                                                 The rest went well, got a little overwhelmed at the bar during happy hour, but nothing major.

- Le repas -

Prices like we like them. Happy hour: 3 euros for the pint, 5 euros for the cocktail, afterwards it goes to 5 euros and 7 euros.                                                                                                                                                                        As for the burger, it’s 8 euros, 10 euros with fries or coleslaw and 12 euros with fries or coleslaw + drink. Even if they’re small, we don’t care, because the prices are too good.                                                           The deserts are 3 euros, but I haven’t had the chance to try them.                                                                    Same for the cocktails. The beer there is the Grolsch, it’s good but there’s better in my opinion; but it was working quite well for them from what I saw the rest of the night there.

The burger                                                                                                                                            Among the 5, there wasn’t really one that spoke to me other than Summer Days.Beef, fresh mozzarella, homemade ketchup, homemade pesto, baby spinach.                                                                                               Afterwards, the barmaid recommended the Green Light which was vegetarian.                                                     The meat is cooked well ( I had asked for rare, from the picture it looked like it would have been cooked too much, but it was good) Overall it’s a good burger , if anything I would say that it’s a little bland, might need more spice or a pesto with a bit more character , I don’t know. But we’d like the ingredients to pop up a bit more.                                                                                                                                                  All that being said, with these prices, no complaints, and they’re  not greasy.

Les frites sont maison aussi et passent bien.

I was told the coleslaw was made in house, but I have my doubts. It’s not the best and has the typical industrial problem of being drowned in a sauce that tastes of chemicals.

The plates molded out of vinyls were a great idea, a nice little surprise at the end of the meal.

The young DJ was playing some Led Zepplin, brought me back 20 years with my brown Philip Morris pack and OCB pack.

- Le bilan -

I support, I recommend, I encourage.                                                                                                                                      We know it’s in the 14th arrondissement, so pretty mainstream and not super exotic, but we did get there at 8 pm and only left at 2:30 am we were so at ease there and were have an interesting conversation with people met there. So, we’ll see what happens in the long term, but for now it’s a yes!

A question? A reaction? We'd love to hear your feedback!
